japan hokkaido, day 5 – lake toya . fresh soba koyo-tei . sapporo . suage

Breakfast at the resort!

And I tried natto for the first time. The taste is alright, just the slimy texture is quite difficult to accept.

—–

It’s raining again.

Heading to Sapporo!

—–

Stopped by Hoheikyo Dam but it was closed due to gale. The place around the carpark is still pretty though.

—–

Lunch at Fresh Soba Koyo-tei. Their menu is hand drawn! So pretty!

So good! The texture of both hot and cold soba is really different. Cold soba has the al dente bite while hot soba is soft and breaks easily. I prefer cold soba.

—–

Snacks on the go.

—–

—–

Finally in Sapporo! First we stroll at Odori Park.

—–

Wanted to take a break at this cafe but there wasn’t any available seats.

See! It’s so pretty inside!

—–

Went to Oniyanma Cafe instead.

They roast their own coffee beans.

—–

Our airbnb for 3 nights.

—–

Rest and then it was time for dinner. Going to try Suage’s Soup Curry.

I opted for fried chicken. It was so fragrant and juicy. Fried chicken will never go wrong when in Japan.

The soup curry tasted like minestrone soup though. Hahahaha! Nothing like our usual curry.

japan hokkaido, day 4 – lake toya

Buffet breakfast in the hotel. This is different from the other buffet breakfast that I’ve had in Japan. There’s more focus on seafood here.

Mini squids stuffed with glutinous rice.

Shio ramen.

Items I have picked out. Things with milk and cheese are not included.

Not forgetting to add more fibre.

Off we go to our next destination. Lake Toya!

Have more vitamins, our body is not used to the cold and dry weather.

One last time.

—–

—–

Check in.

We’re pretty much devastated after we saw our rooms.

Too sweet for one person to finish.

—–

Dinner buffet at the hotel.

—–

—–

japan hokkaido, day 3 – hakodate asaihi (morning market), red brick warehouse, motomachi

Starting our day at the market.

There are loads of seafood sold here but we do not think the prices here are good. There are stalls that mark up the prices and when you pass by, they will offer you the original price and claim it as a discount.

We bought a slice of melon to share and I almost dropped it. 😅

Cool drain cap.

Found a place for lunch.

I had the scallop, uni and fish roe rice bowl! It was good but just somehow not as good as the one I had at Tsukiji Market.

—–

Hakodate Bay’s Red Brick warehouse.

It’s a really beautiful place for picture taking.

Most of the shops here sell home decorative items or gifts, like musical boxes, dream catchers, famous cartoon characters collectables…

Ice-creamed at Lucky Pierrot.

Headed to the Motomachi area, went pass a few pretty houses.

Visited an owl shrine, the view here is pretty.

Continued walking to a church.

It’s very very pretty inside the church but do keep very quiet and no photography is allowed.

Going back to the car.

Lunch at Kantaro Sushi.

Many choices to choose from.

Green tea powder.

—–

Back in hotel for a nap.

—–

Dinner at the restaurant opposite our hotel, The Very Very Beast. The rating looks good.

—–

Moved to Hakodate Beer Hall next.

—–

Ice cream again!

—–

Up we go to Mount Hakodate!

Be careful went going up or down the hill, there was a fox in the middle of the road while we were going down.

japan hokkaido, day 2 – airport . hakodate . lucky pierrot

Friends are coming over today, so we have to go meet them from the airport, collect the car and head to Hakodate.

We had initially planned to have breakfast at the McDonald’s opposite our hotel but we were too tired and overslept. Needed to get out by 9.40am to catch the last free shuttle provided by the hotel to the airport.

It’s going to be a rainy day.

Took the shuttle.

Cute plushies displayed around the airport.

Decided to have breakfast in MMC Organic Cafe.

No-cream carbonara which tastes better with each bite. There was a bottle of grated parmesan to add if you like but I prefer mine cheeseless.

Honey toast was heavenly, sweet with salty butter and a good tinge of vanilla flavour from the ice cream. Mmm…

—–

Friends are here!

Friends had lunch while we went to Royce Chocolate World.

Chocolate bar bun. 😅

Bought some pralines for myself, this is only available in Hokkaido. Dark chocolate but it’s still very sweet.

Cute!

Collecting our rented car.

Then we had to take the shuttle bus…

To their main car holding area.

Our car for 11 days.

On the road!

Pictures don’t do any justice to the scenery.

Jigokudani aka Hell Valley.

Cute little shop.

Hell Valley is beautiful. Good thing we arrived while the sun is setting too.

Clear water mixing with murky water.

Even demons to represent genders at the toilet.

—–

Chicken cutlet sandwich as a tea break snack. Yums.

Pit stop. Food stations close at 6pm. 😅

—–

First thing we do right after reaching Hakodate is to have dinner at Lucky Pierrot. It’s only available in Hokkaido.

Wacky decor and also snacks sold.

Menu. Chinese chicken is number 1.

Wow. The chicken is well-flavoured, tender and juicy. Thumbs up, will recommend.

—–

It was really quiet.

japan hokkaido, day 1 – chitose

The day I’ve been looking forward to is finally here! Haven’t slept during the night because flight is at 6am.

Breakfast comes first, hunger at 4am is no joke.

In-flight meal (Singapore to Taipei), this looks more like boiled chicken than roasted. 😅

Transit at Taipei.

In-flight meal (Taipei – Hokkaido), this is one of the better meals I’ve had on Scoot. Beef was tender. Be careful of splatters though.

—–

Finally here!!!

Took bus 66 to our hotel but got down too early. *facepalm*

So we took the train and got down at Chitose Station which is just one stop away.

Quiet town.

Hotel is not bad, a little more spacious than the usual hotels.

TC rushed in to work.

I shall have a good bath tonight.

Going to settle our dinner at 7-eleven, their food can hardly go wrong.

This oyako don. 👌🏻 How is it that the egg doesn’t get cooked in the microwave? The rice was in a separate bowl stacked at the bottom.

Condiments provided too, didn’t have the need to use it as the dish was flavorful enough.

Meat ball nabe. It was alright.

The breads. Sandwich was yums, anything related to eggs is good.

Curry pork bun was heavy on the spice and herbs but good in a way.

Desserts! Shall not comment on the sweet potato, it’s not the first time we’re having it. I don’t mind bringing a batch of it home.

I see black sugar and it’s only the last one left on the shelf, I take it. Just look at the whole chunk of red bean paste inside. Better share as it’s quite jelak to have it yourself. The red bean paste wasn’t as sweet as those I had in the past, the thin layer of black sugar cake around gives a very nice fragrance.

Drinks. Bought the Kirin Lemon because packaging on point. Coffee tastes okay, doesn’t have the sour note that TC likes.

bangkok day 2 – chatuchak . featherstone cafe bistro

Starting the day with a Cha Tra Mue milk tea before we start our shopping at Chatuchak.

One of the best buys at Chatuchak, I customised a tote bag for myself! There’s also t-shirts, mugs and caps.

It’s a very beautiful place.

Food was good overall but the braised beef cheek which was from their new menu wasn’t, so that was a risk.

bangkok day 1 – greyhound cafe . pla thong mookata

Too early.

First time we had to take the airport shuttle to board out planes.

20180820_0009596705653264935585284.jpg

_

Once we have left our luggage at the hotel, we went to get some snacks at 7-eleven, as the Greyhound Cafe at Siam Center isn’t opened yet. Yes, we arrived Bangkok very early.

Decor in Greyhound Cafe was beautiful. Loved the greens.

20180820_0010492915839992791400737.jpg

The food wasn’t as good as we expected though. Beef was chewy tough and pork was a little tad dry. Drinks was alright but I wouldn’t go back for just the drinks if the food wasn’t good.

Although the toilet looks like it was build to be shared. One side toilet, the other side shower but there’s only one door which slides to whichever side that was in use. *face palm* Door was quite translucent too, can see shape and colour, so we can’t even use the basin while somebody is showering or pooping or peeing.

malaysia day 4 – penang . coming home . assemble bed frame

Sunrise.

_

Curry mee. Love that they have pig’s blood cake, it’s sad that Singapore no longer allows stalls to sell it. Add curry chilli if you like and it’s not too spicy.

Toast was just planta, dip in sugar. =(

_

Coming back.

_

After I was done clearing the luggage, I headed to the new house as I have deliveries from Taobao to receive. Mum came along and helped me to open the packages and shifted some heavy furniture, so that I can assemble some of them after she left.

The is not helping. Fml. Took us so long to figure it out and the parts that we have was different. *Cries* Luckily I’m good at it thanks to Ikea.

malaysia day 3 – cameron highlands to penang

Starting the day at Hong Kong Hotel & Restaurant with curry chicken chee cheong fun (not like kampar’s but still yums) and an iced kopi, somehow we always end up here for breakfast.

_

Headed to Cactus Point first, didn’t take any pictures because came here a few times already. I bought some packs plant seeds and then went to pang sai. Muahahahaha!

Then it was the market, quite boring because the shops all sell the same kind of stuffs; strawberries, corn, fruits & veggies, cordyceps. I did get my steamed corn here as a snack while on the way to penang.

_

There’s a tiny amusement park with very cheap rides, great if you have kids. The excavator ride was RM6.00.

Flowers outside, I took these with screenshot while video-calling with Sis. Not bad huh?

_

Wanted to visited the Lavender Farm but figured that it should the same like the rest of the farms, so we decided to proceed to Penang.

_

Got this at one of the rest stops once we got to the foot of Cameron Highlands. Overly drenched with sauce. Ewww. Not nice. Lucky it’s only RM2.

_

Took out my corn, I picked the kernels out one by one and just nice finish everything once we reach our first stop in Penang.

_

Sat in Joo Hooi Cafe and the shop owners will start coming to you asking if you want to order anything from their stall.

We had the popular Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul. It was refreshing for the hot weather.

Duck egg char kway teow. Yum yum!

Forgot to take picture of the oyster egg omelette but this is the stall.

And Penang Laksa. Woohoo!

_

Bought some pastries at the bakery beside. The filling in the egg tart is very good; thick and flavourful, crust may be a little dry. Kaya puff is not too sweet. I’ll get more if I come back to Penang next time.

_

Checked in to the apartment and we got sea view! (Airbnb link here)

_

Went shopping at Tesco then it was dinner at Presgrave Street Hokkien Prawn Mee, there are also others stalls within the shop.

The soup base is good but I personally find it too spicy for me to enjoy, even my parents couldn’t handle the it. Dad got a headache after.

Wanton mee was a letdown, I ordered large and it was just a huge pile of noodles. Blergh.

Oyster egg omeletter sucks too.

And what’s with all the chilli in all the dishes? =( Got chilli doesn’t mean it’s good. I can only say something is good when they do not use overly spicy chilli, that is when one can truely taste the flavour of the dish.

_

Hazelnut Luxe Magnum! This is good!

malaysia day 2 – kampar to cameron highlands

Early breakfast to start the day. Ice milo as usual, then there’s wanton soup (not the best but still good) and the fried items (last night’s at the curry chee cheong fun tastes much better).

_

Off we go to start our first activity of the day.

Tomb sweeping.

_

Coconut for the hot weather.

Pokemon gym-ed

While Mum waits for us.

_

Durian-ed

We used to bath in here with water from the well, before things start to fall apart. I will go in together with my cousin, each of us will have a scoop of water in our hands and we will splash each other because it takes a lot of courage to pour the first scoop of cold water on ourselves.

Chicken.

_

Lunch and we weren’t expecting vegetarian food, this place wasn’t vegetarian the last time we visited which is very long ago.

_

On the road to Cameron Highlands.

Mountain watch. This is where marble tiles from from.

_

Stopped at a farm, nephew enjoyed strawberry picking.

_

Dropped our pokemons in a quiet gym.

_

Got to our rented apartment, didn’t take pictures of the place (Airbnb link here) but here’s my bed for the night.

View outside from the living room.

_

Went to a small night market, the famous night market is not open today.

Bought ramly burgers but not nice one let. The bread is stale and jelak. Patty quite tasteless too.

Fried chicken was pretty good but I was too full to enjoy it.

_

Dinner at C Buddy Steamboat
We got the set for RM 49.90, tom yam and clear soup is free. I ordered corn soup which I feel is very nice, have to add on RM 11.90 for it. Think the set is enough to feed 3 to 4 persons.
